Business rates can be a major overhead when you’re running a shop or hospitality business. But the good news is that your business may be eligible for relief on these rates.

Retail, hospitality and leisure relief is available for eligible businesses that meet the criteria. And if that’s you, you could be looking at a 75% cut to your business rates.

Who’s eligible for retail, hospitality and leisure relief?

Retail, hospitality and leisure relief is offered to businesses that trade in these specific industry sectors. To qualify, you need to be a:

  • Shop
  • Restaurant, café, bar or pub
  • Cinema or music venue
  • Hospitality or leisure business – for example, a gym, a spa or a hotel

How much relief can you claim?

If your business meets the eligibility criteria, you can claim relief of 75% off your business rates bills for the 2024 to 2025 billing year (that’s 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025).The most you can get in relief each billing year is £110,000 per business. If you opt out of retail, hospitality and leisure relief for the 2024 to 2025 billing year you cannot change your mind.

Talk to us in our Urmston office about making a claim through your council.

Contact your local council to check if you can make a claim for retail, hospitality and leisure relief, or any other business and enterprise reliefs you might be eligible for.

We can help you check the criteria of your business and can suggest other business rate reliefs, tax reliefs or government grants that could help to boost your finances.
